Scholarship Program

For students wishing to go beyond Grade 5, scholarships are provided to the boarding school in Murraca, about 40 kilometres away. These scholarships are financed by the Gettin' Higher Choir's "Honouring Fund", which was started by GHC members as a special tradition of giving at their Kapasseni fundraising concerts.

In lieu of collecting money to buy post-concert flowers for the choir directors and guest artists, choir members make contributions to fund these scholarships. There are currently 12 children from Kapasseni attending school at Murraca. One of them is Juanita Mario, who went on the school in Murraca in 2005.

School Breakfast Program
The breakfast program was started in 1999 when Perpetua saw how many children were arriving at school hungry. Local women have been hired to prepare large batches of nutritious porridge for school children, mothers and babies. The recipe includes millet and corn flour, brown (sugarcane) sugar, sesame oil, pounded peanuts, sun dried fruits, and a teaspoon of nutritional supplement.
